We’ve listened: Goodbye Notifier Ads! (Update)

Do you remember this ?

Yes, the so called “Notifier” which for the Free Antivirus users pops up once a day (if you didn’t install the Avira Search Free Toolbar) to sell you something.

I bet you do, and I bet you didn’t like it!

We also never liked it. We used it because we wanted to finance the Free Antivirus so that we continue to be able to offer free good quality security to the millions of users that are counting on it. But, soon we realized that despite the fact that it paid for a small percentage of the costs, it pushed away exactly the users for which we were striving to make the updates more frequent.

Starting with October 1st, you will never see it again.

Until then, just as a reminder, you will see this:

If you continue to see a Notifier window then you weren’t updated yet to version 2014. Version 2013 has still the “offline” functionality of the Notifier, meaning that whenever the computer is not able to reach the Notifier servers it will display the local version of the advertisement. Only the products in version 2014 will stop seeing the “offline” version of the Notifier. Please note that even if you download a new product from the website, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you download the version 2014. Due to the staged rollout the installation packages also change from version 2014 to version 2013. After the rollout is finished, the only version available on the website will be the version 2014.

The update to version 2014 happens automatically and you don’t have to do anything, no matter what product you are using. Please note that because we are doing a staged rollout, not all customers get the version 2014 in the same time.
